MACRA

The passage of MACRA (Medicare Access & CHIP Reauthorization Act) marks a new era in the healthcare landscape. MACRA repealed the sustainable growth rate formula, or SGR, which had been the basis for determining annual updates to the Medicare fee schedule. Furthermore, beginning in 2019, a large portion of Medicare Part B payments of nearly all providers will be closely tied to quality, cost-efficient care. However, these 2019 payment adjustments will be based on actual performance beginning January 2017. For that reason, practices of all sizes need to be educating themselves on the impact of MACRA and determining the best approach to maximize performance.
